How Taking a “Break” Can Increase Your Productivity

Finding ways to boost productivity and enhance our sense of well-being is something that many people are interested in, let’s face it, we enjoy being busy and frequently use it as a gauge for our productivity, importance, and degree of commitment.

Many people don’t realize that working nonstop not only saps your energy but also lowers your productivity. To be really honest, frequent Breaks don’t receive the attention they should.

When working long hours, especially if you spend the entire day in the same space, it is essential to give yourself some time to rest and recharge. Everyone has various preferences for the length or frequency of their breaks, but taking some time to refuel is crucial

What are the advantages of taking a break, this is a question that many industrious people ask? Adding to our daily workload by taking additional time off seems counterintuitive. Taking breaks during the workday has advantages that have been scientifically verified. There are a number of benefits that can come from taking a pause for individuals.

Breaks Allow You To Recharge Your Mind:

Taking short breaks throughout the day can help you unwind and give your brain a rest. You come back to the current task with a new perspective and a renewed sense of purpose. If you force yourself to continue when you need a break, though, you run the risk of being distracted or performing poorly, which will provide a mediocre product.

It Allows You To Explore New Possibilities:

Taking a break allows you to “reboot” your perception of reality by shifting our perspective for a few moments. Sometimes we can’t see anything up close, so we have to take a few steps back or wait to notice what we’re missing as we rush past. Breaking allows you to glimpse new possibilities ahead of you as well as identify new ambitions and goals for the future.

Breaks Help You Regain Your Strength:

No matter how enthusiastic we are, the wellspring of our energy eventually runs empty. Being incredibly busy and buried by responsibilities, with new ones accumulating on top, saps our life force and weighs us down. It is important to restore your internal energy reserves in order to continue living a full life. Short pauses are the simplest method to accomplish this. The longer you put off getting enough rest, the longer it will take to recover. Take a break without waiting until you are entirely weary; this will allow you to regain your strength faster than if you wait until you are completely exhausted.

Improves Overall Health, Leading to Increased Productivity:

Breaks vary greatly from one another. You won’t get the same benefits from a healthy meal or a fast stroll if you spend your lunch break nibbling at your desk, answering emails, or taking a “sort of” break. Instead of scrolling social media at your desk, take little breaks and engage in some light exercise.
According to experts, “the endorphins released and a variety of other exercise-related benefits directly correspond to your ability to be more focused, energized, and present at work.” All of this boosts your chances of entering the flow state and so increases your productivity.”
Movement breaks help to get your blood circulating and make you feel less exhausted and unproductive. Mindfulness activities, on the other hand, lower stress and anxiety, helping you to focus better. Take some time away from your screen, but also engage in activities that promote physical and mental wellness. Consider scheduling brief meditation breaks or periods of physical activity during the workday.

Taking Breaks Can Help You Come Up With Innovative Answers To Issues:

If you are given a challenging task, you could be tempted to keep working on it until you figure it out and come up with a solution. But how can you effectively use your creativity to uncover the solutions that complex challenges demand?

A study discovered that switching between tasks, or pausing to concentrate on something else, reduces cognitive fixation and improves divergent and convergent thinking, both of which are essential components of creativity and innovation.

Basically, when you take a break from a task, your brain stops focusing on that activity and begins to think more imaginatively. As a result, it will be simpler to approach that task again in a fresh, original manner and to come up with a great solution.

Allow yourself the break time you require to be your most productive self.

Being productive does not mean you have to work nonstop; in fact, taking breaks is an important component of productivity.

And now that you understand how breaks affect productivity what is left to do?

Schedule breaks throughout the day, and watch your performance soar as a result.

The Next Big Thing In 21st Century Education

Think of what administrators could do to build successful schools.

As a management consultancy, one of our main goals is to help clients, most of them school boards and education management organizations, to improve how they manage their schools and maximize their return on investment.

For administrators to move beyond operational management they need to understand the capacity of their staff, promote open communication, and provide useful feedback.
Here are some tips for effective management:

– Be Open and Adaptive to Change: Use present changes to improve your students’ and teachers surroundings so as to aid success and growth. Remember, you set the standard and will be held accountable to represent the greater interest of the school

– Demonstrate Honesty and Integrity: Your staff and students will appreciate your honesty and character, which will last longer. These character traits alone can cultivate tomorrow’s leaders, empowering them to hold themselves and others accountable, even when it’s hard.

– Lead by example: A school administrator role requires unparalleled passion, continuous dedication and a great deal of hard work. Passion is a critical component to finding happiness in any job and will make all the difference in your performance and interactions with the people in your school. Passionate leaders set the example for excellence and resilience, finding ways to encourage and inspire their teams for exponential growth.

– Listen to Input From Your Staff: Your teachers might know the students better than you do because they interact with them for substantial periods of time throughout the week. Listening can inhibit opportunities to connect with staff and learn from their experiences.

– Cultivate Community and Communication; As the head of the school, you are the person everyone looks to for information and guidance. When something goes wrong, it’s up to you to resolve the conflict.

In summary, if you follow the tips above, you will be get the best out of your staffs. And remember, it is better to get help than to stumble along with your current structure.
Portsbridge Educational can help get your staff excited for school work and encourage them to be the best in their fields.

5 Core Beliefs of Incredibly Successful People

1. I AM NOT SELF-SERVING. I AM A SERVANT
No one accomplishes anything worthwhile on his own.

2. SUCCESS IS INEVITABLE ONLY IN HINDSIGHT

It’s easy to look back on an entrepreneurial path to greatness and assume that every vision was clear, every plan was perfect and every step was executed flawlessly. It wasn’t. Success is never assured. Only in hindsight does it appear that way.

3. I WILL DO ONE THING EVERY DAY NO ONE ELSE IS WILLING TO DO.

After a week, you’ll be uncommon. After a month, you’ll be special. After a year, you will be incredible.

4. STRATEGY IS IMPORTANT, BUT EXECUTION IS EVERYTHING.

Incredibly successful people focus on executing incredibly well.

5. I MAY NOT BE THE FIRST… BUT I CAN ALWAYS BE THE LAST

Success is often the result of perseverance. Other people may be smarter, better connected, more talented or better funded. But they can’t win if they aren’t around at the end.

Think! Think!! Think!!!

Where are the THINKERS who are expected to shape our education?
Thinking Administrators
Thinking Educators
Thinking Learners
Thinking parents
Thinking PTF.
Thinking School Board
Thinking Legislators and Senators
Thinking Governors
Thinking Citizens
Thinking Ministers
Thinking policymakers
Thinking school owners
Thinking Commissioners

If, and only if most of these people act well, are patriotic, execute their responsibilities and create an enabling environment for education to thrive then:
Nigeria will be food sufficient.
Crime will reduce.
Imports will reduce.
Exports will increase.
Science and technology shall be enhanced.
Unemployment shall be minimal.
Youths agitation for one thing or the other shall be minimized.
Health tourism/schooling abroad shall be less.
Research institutions shall rise to the occasion.
Our industries shall be revamped.
Tourism shall be awakened.
There’ll be Improvement in transportation, road network, electricity supply, health and so on.

Having said this, it is evident that whatever EDUCATION we have: Islamic or Western should have a great element of CHARACTER EDUCATION, which holds the key to national development and integration. We neglect this at our own peril and it’s time to put on our THINKING caps and ‘kudos’ to YOU for easing the problem of government by establishing a private school.

Imperfection

Most often we say, “practice makes perfect” but I would say, “practice makes us better” since there’s no perfect person in the world other than God Almighty.

Permit me to add that, “we are imperfect people brought into the world by imperfect parents, living in an imperfect society, working with imperfect colleagues, attending to imperfect clients and working for imperfect institutions but in spite of these imperfections, we are striving to attain a certain level of perfection”.

This brings to mind the following issues which we might have overlooked in our day today activities.

  1. Losing hope on some learners who couldn’t live up to expectation.
  2. Terminating the appointment of staff without first trying to mold them.
  3. Acting on the spur of the moment because of certain issues.
  4. Thumbs up (👍) to you if you have molded greenhorns who came in with nothing but today find themselves up there. Forget about the betrayal of some who move to other places without reciprocating the gesture. We reap what we sow.
  5. This is not an avenue to encourage mediocrity. Far from it, but to help build lasting institutions and structures.
  6. Finally, to those who have become obsolete or unwilling to move with the tides, show them the exit.
  7. To those who have served you assiduously for ten/fifteen/twenty years, celebrate them at the point of departure bearing in mind that no employer can keep a bad product for that period of time.

Just my thoughts for your breakfast.

Leadership in the 21st Century

Leadership in the 21st Century

Everything rises and falls on leadership says the famous maxim. The success of every organization is completely hinged on how effective, connected and competent the leadership and management of such organization is. Our systems, structures, families, organizations and nation are failing not because of lack of expertise, competence or excellent hands in leadership but because the matrices and denominators of effective and exemplary leadership which are Character, Competence, Confidence and Connection are completely missing in the core of our leadership in this dispensation.

Most leaders in the 21 century are beclouded by the passion to occupy positions forgetting that positional leadership is at the bottom rung when talking about the levels of leadership. Leadership transcends coercing, dominating or controlling people so as to achieve a set of goals although all these are included, it is simply ability to impact and influence another person. It is what happens to people first and then the system organization you lead after a leader must have gone that determines how successful you are as a leader.

Leaders should also have it at the back of their minds that they are not intrinsically more important or valuable than their followers or the people they lead, it is the impact of their actions that is greater than that of the people they are leading, and having this understanding will definitely increase a leader’s empathy and vulnerability towards the people he is leading and this automatically increases people’s loyalty, dedication and commitment towards the leader.

Leadership is being able to plant trees that will not give shades to the planter in his time. It is about leaving enduring and indelible legacies for the coming generation. The whole essence of leadership is service to humanity. It’s so sad and precarious to know that most leaders will get to the end of life and
discover that they have not truly lived.

Relevance of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for Educators

Relevance of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for Educators

CPD consists of all learning experiences that are intended to be of direct or indirect benefit to the individual, or school which contribute to the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom. These are reflective activities which improve the skills, knowledge and understanding of teachers and their effectiveness in schools. It can be argued that teacher quality is enhanced by their engagement in effective CPD activities which contribute to the standards of teaching and learning in schools. This concurs with the axiom that; no educational system can rise above the quality of its teachers, as stated in the national policy of education. The relevance of CPD in teaching highlights its functionality in its professionalization and in contributing to the needs of not just teachers but students and schools. CPD is aimed first at meeting the professional needs of teachers, enhancing their career prospects and supporting them in preparing for future challenges.

Engaging in CPD is intended to equip teachers with relevant skills for instructional delivery, update their knowledge and expose them to new methods and materials to meet the dictates of modern realities of the job. Secondly, CPD will promote the school as a learning community where learning takes place not only by the pupils but also by the teachers. The overall significance of CPD in schools is to enhance teacher effectiveness, in order to improve pupil performance and learning outcomes.

Research has shown that successful schools are those which recognise that building effective teacher to teacher and teacher to student connections and practicing good stewardship can only be achieved if teachers themselves are routinely engaged in continuous learning. It is through CPD that teachers review, renew, and extend their commitment as change agents in the moral purposes of teaching. Schools are therefore expected to engage teachers in various forms of CPD activities to improve both teacher quality and learning outcomes. Teachers are also required to take ownership of their professional development, and invest in training opportunities.
